Job Description: Office Manager

UNITE HERE Local 2850

Location: downtown Oakland.

Hours: full-time or part-time, depending on candidate qualifications

Pay: part-time – hourly, rate commensurate with experience; full-time – salaried.


Unite Here Local 2850 is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Office Manager, to begin immediately. The Office Manager is responsible for coordinating finance, HR, and operations for the 14-person staff.


Operations & Communications

  • Answer phones and assist union members who drop by the office.
  • Check voicemail & return calls or transcribe messages.
  • Process and distribute mail.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, including equipment, insurance, and building management
  • Maintain office supplies
  • Send texts, emails and mailers to union members and supporters.
  • Maintain union social media accounts
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Maintain organized records (print and digital)



  • Coordinate with off-site bookkeeper for weekly accounts payable check runs
  • Submit weekly payroll instructions
  • Coordinate with off-site dues processor for member dues records
  • Distribute monthly and annual financial reports to executive board
  • Assist with audit preparation
  • Maintain organized records (print and digital)



  • Coordinate administrative onboarding of new staff
  • Track staff attendance and accruals of paid leave
  • Coordinate benefits with contracted administrator
  • Ensure compliance with staff union contract
  • Maintain organized records (print and digital)



  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Excel and social media platforms.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to manage time independently.
  • Problem-solving capability; flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing situations.
  • Good people skills; ability to interact respectfully with union members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to social justice and workers’ rights.
  • Desirable, but not required: Spanish or Chinese language skills; graphics and layout (Adobe InDesign or similar); experience in the labor movement.
